Cup of Life
Football, a sport popular to the whole world; or is it? Many of the masses here in the Philippines don't give a damn about the said sport. A sport that is for others boring and lifeless. Imagine spending at LEAST 90 minuites or one and a half hour of your time watching twenty two players run around a long open field and take the chance to shoot. Considering the fact that it takes them -what -an average of 20 minuites to shoot. What's amazing about this game unlike in many other game is the lovely teamwork that is made throughout the game. The eyepopping dribbling and ballcontrol which requires amazing dexterity and agility. Of course it is un-ethical to compare Footbal (not Soccer; only barbarians use the word Soccer and for a fact to the "worlds" or let me rephrase that as the "Philippines" national sport - Basketball. Let me clarify that I have nothing against the said sport and im just merely making a quick comparison of the two sports. Ok here we go, the primary factor that why Filipinoes love "teh game" is that it's "cool". When I say "cool" there are a lot of amazing tricks that can be done when shooting - and believe me - Filipinoes love attention and commands praise from others (I don't like to generalize but that's the fact that I observe). Next is that Compared to Football, Basketball is much quicker and say- action packed which, a game if im not mistaken has 10 mins of playing time each quarter. A professional game will have a final score on the average of 90 points. Football ends at least with one goal, some ends with no goals, all nill.
What Filipinos don't appreciate the beauty of Football aside from the technicality of the teamwork. It's about the feeling at that moment of thriumph - a goal. A single goal can change the way one person - or one nation feels. That is the real beauty of Football. The patients and the appreciation of such teamwork is needed. One cannot win a Football match like a basketball player can - going solo. If you go solo there will be at least 3 defenders which you will face not including the goal keeper.
Football for several years have united the world, even stopped wars (yes it's true, i've read an article on the newspaper on that) just for a few weeks, appreciate the efforts of thier countrymen and for other countries, appreciate the game in general. Non participating countries still watch FIFA World Cup FYI. If im not mistaken it was in malasia I think where a whole city went black out due to an overload since too many people are watching the World Cup. Looking at another fact that even small countries even third world ones are within the World Cup. A country which I recently discovered, Trinidad and Tobago are amongst the few small countries that made it into the elimination playoffs. It is sad that Filipinos, still under the shadow of Americans and feeling a false sense of indipendence cannot appreciate such a beautiful sport. Starting in the south, Iloilo and Bacolod, one day the craze will soon explode amongst the common youth of this forsaken country. And hopefully one day we will hold the cup of life.
